Super Sami

First off, let me just say that Sami is totally awesome! I may be biased, but she is! Last Sunday she learned how to ride her bike, minus the training wheels. She has asked for someone to teach her before, but we never did, and she told me that Sara Kate finally taught her. She did such a good job, by Sunday night she was zooming around the driveway. I was really impressed.
So today we were out at her dad's house and he decided it was time to teach her how to ride the dirtbike. All the kids ride dirtbikes and atv's, we have a ton, and have been building their own track. She wasn't really dressed for it, but she had a helmet. She did such an excellant job! Unfortunately, it ended on a sad note when she crashed. She got too far ahead of Dean & rode straight into unplowed bumby land. She didn't hear Dean yelling for her to turn and every time she hit a bump her hand moved the gas! Keith rode over on the big atv to help but ended up between her & Dean before he could get to her and it scared her more. Down she went! Luckily her side was only scraped a little, no major injuries, but she won't try it again until she has better riding gear! She did an excellant job though and we were all really proud of her for trying.

It's Potty Time!

This just a random picture I came across when I was downloading the Easter pictures. I thought it was super cute, and on day it will probably embarrass Mollie! She has been working on using the potty, obviously, and is doing a pretty good job. Isn't she awesome?

Happy Birthday Madeline!

Madi just turned 1! She has gotten so big. It seems like it wasn't that long ago she was a tiny little thing. Mollie did a great job helping me decorate Madi's cake. Madi had a lot of fun.

Easter

Here are some Easter pictures. This was actually before Kody's visit, but I'm a little behind/backwards. Oh well, I don't really care! They're cute!

Go Michigan!

The weekend before Easter there was some sort of scrimmage game that was open to everyone (meaning kids too) so Brett & I took the kids (Kim was out of town). We had fun, although we didn't stay too long. The sun was out and we snagged the BEST parking spot, right in front!

National Zoo

We went to the zoo today with a nice group of friends. It was a really nice day. We finally had a break from the rain. The kids really liked the Pandas and Elephants. Kody & Sami had kids meals that came with applesauce. The look on their faces was hilarious when they tasted it. It was this unsweetened stuff and they both got the funniest look on their face when they ate it. However, the tempting candy machine encouraged them to eat it without a complaint.

Bendy Stix, BBQ Sauce & Carousels

The kids turned the showroom at the office into their temporary playroom, complete with a dvd player. They were really good. I would forget they were even there...oops! They had been so good that Wednesday Kim & I took them out to lunch and then to the mall to shop.

We ate lunch at P.F. Changs. They have these bendy stix that the kids love to play with. We left with 4 extra packs.

Sami loves her ribs! Her hands and face were covered in sauce and she wouldn't let us take another picture!

Riding the carousel at the mall

Chuck E Cheese

So on every parent-free visit I have with my niece & nephew we take a trip to Chuck E Cheese. I love the pizza and they love the games. This time we were joined by my friend April and her kids - Vivi, Bryce & baby Helen. Sami & Sara Kate were also there, of course! Things got a little crazy on the 3-horse merry-go-round. They were riding double and jumping on & off during the ride. Unfortunately I couldn't get a picture of that because then people may have realized the I was with the crazy kids. It wore them out - Kody was asleep in under 8 minutes!

DC Fun

It's Kody's spring break this week so he has come to visit his Aunt Brooke. We spent Monday down in DC with my friend Kim, Susan, Sara Kate & Sami. We all had a great time and Sami and Kody really enjoyed the metro ride downtown. I'm sure people thought they were nuts. They were yelling that we were on a spaceship and there were light beams coming at us (in reality the lights of the tunnel). It was pretty funny. We saw the White House, Washington Monument, Presidents Motorcade, Air & Space Museum and Natural History Museum. I might be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that McDonald's may have been one of the highlights of the day for Kody, even with all the cool stuff we saw!

Cherry Blossoms

We just had the National Cherry Blossom Festival during the first 2 weeks of April. I went downtown to enjoy the festivities with Dionne, Kaylee, Zach & Samantha Walsman. We had a lot of fun seeing the different performers and admiring the cherry blossoms.

Europe 2009

Finally! I am finally posting my pictures from my last trip to Europe. I've been trying to learn how to use my imovie program and this is my first video. Angie and I had the best time. We flew into London with our packpacks, passports, cash, credit card & guide books. We had a bit of trouble entering customs, I guess we looked a little shady? The agent there seemed suspicious of us since we didn't have proof of a place to stay, proof of when we were leaving, and proof of our available credit. Needless to say, after lecturing us, they let us through. We managed to secure lodging before leaving the airport, exchanged our cash for pounds, and found the metro. It really was not that difficult. London had so much to see and we took a day trip to Salisbury, Stonehenge & Bath. We arrive Sunday afternoon and on Thursday night we took a bus overnight to Paris.

The bus ride to Paris was interesting. We made some new pals who were able to help us with the metro upon our arrival. We rode up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night. It was a scary ride up but awesome! Angie was really looking forward to shouting "Sanctuary" at the Notre Dame. It fit really well because a rain storm broke out & we really had to run for cover. Unfortunately that same weather kept us from going up to the top outside. We saw the tombs of Victor Hugo & Alexandre Dumas. We saw the Mona Lisa and the Louvre, which is unbelievably massive. It was soo much bigger than I ever expected. We also got to see the pyramid lit up at night, which I've wanted to see since seeing it in the Da Vinci Code. The only thing missing was Tom Hanks. The National Theatre was beautiful but we couldn't find the Phantom, but not for lack of trying. I'm sure some people thought we were crazy!

We were set to leave Paris on an overnight train to Barcelona Saturday night. This is where we had our first and only major problem. We packed up and headed for the train station, which was a bit of a long walk, only to find that our train had been canceled due to a major storm in southern France & northern Spain. Well, we were exhausted, hungry, and penniless! We had no place to go to spend the night and no cash. We used it up on the way to the station thinking we would be fine until the morning when we arrived in Barcelona to meet my parents. After facing a tearful Angie, the nice station people gave us a sleeping car to spend the night in. After facing a tearful me a lovely lady even snuck us in some boxed food. They also gave us blankets and pillows and the night wasn't so bad once we were tucked into our little room. The next day I journeyed to find an ATM and got us some cash for breakfast. We then found out we would have to wait a few hours for information on a new train. So I amused myself by going to the lovely showers and pampered myself until the floor was flooding! It was nice... At 2pm we still had no news on a future train - too much flooding. So we hopped the metro to the airport & hopped onto a flight.

We finally made it to Barcelona on Sunday night, just not in time for the concert my parents were going to take us too:( We were soo thrilled to see a real hotel room with a bathroom in it! After the hostel shower it was great to be able to shower without flip flops. The next day & 1/2 my parents showed us some of the most popular sights and we had a great time. Then we took the train to their home in Alicante. Alicante was beautiful. There was a gorgeous beach and the weather was nice. We were finally able to wash our clothes (I'm sure my parents appreciated that) and my mom made us some wonderful home cooked food. It was a super fun trip and we had a great rest before starting our journey home. Well, I think I've typed enough so enjoy the pictures!
